Computer Monitor wont turn on when i change wattage of power supply?

My monitor works if i keep the wattage at 115 on my power supply but if it turn it to 225 my monitor doesnt turn on. Why?
First what is 110 and 220? 110 is what you findinyour outlets at home, and 220 is what is hookedup to your washer dryer, range, AC ect. So. If you change the volatge to your computer and/or monitor then it can fry your motherboard. Iv done the same thing when i was little.
DO NOT TOUCH THE VOLTAGE SWITCH ON THE PSU UNLESS YOU WANT TO DESTROY YOUR MACHINE.
For the sake of your computers life, do not switch the red button. Keep it to 115. 225 is for other countries/continents. The 225 wattage will not change in performance from 115.
